In Africa for Giraffes

The Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) was set up in 2015 by Stephanie and Julian Fennessy. It is the only association in the world that works to protect giraffes, whose numbers are decreasing. GCF’s projects include monitoring, education in schools and research in the 19 African countries where giraffes live. These countries cover an area of over 400,000 square kilometres.

The project

Julian, Stephanie and their team have spent the last 20 years doing research. This research has used DNA analysis to show that there are four species of giraffe, not just one. This information is very important for conservation programmes.

A future for giraffes

GCF carries out monitoring, school education and research projects in the 19 African countries where giraffes live. These countries cover an area of over 400,000 square kilometres.
